Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 Server
The SPARC Enterprise T5120 is a 1U single‑socket rack‑mount server developed by Sun Microsystems before the Oracle acquisition. It is built around one UltraSPARC T2 multi‑core processor available at 1.2 GHz, 1.4 GHz or 1.6 GHz. The CPU offers up to 8 cores and 8 threads per core, delivering 64 hardware threads for outstanding multi‑threaded workload throughput, with integrated on‑chip crypto engines for hardware‑accelerated encryption and decryption operations.
The server contains 16 FB‑DIMM memory slots with a maximum supported memory capacity of 128 GB. It provides three PCI‑Express expansion slots for additional network or storage adapters, and supports up to eight 2.5‑inch hot‑swap SAS hard‑disk or solid‑state drives. Four integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports reduce the requirement for extra network adapters. ILOM service processor enables remote system management for data‑center administration.
This platform runs natively on Oracle Solaris 10, supporting Solaris Zones (Containers) for lightweight server virtualization to consolidate multiple application workloads and improve hardware utilization. As an early sun4v‑architecture T2‑based rack server, the T5120 was commonly used for web tiers, Java middleware, light‑duty database and department‑level enterprise services before being superseded by later T3‑series SPARC serversOracle.
