Oracle SPARC T5‑8 Server

The SPARC T5‑8 is a high‑end, vertically‑scalable 8U rack‑mount SPARC enterprise server. It supports flexible CPU population: 4‑socket or fully‑populated 8‑socket configuration of SPARC T5 processors running at 3.6 GHz. Each SPARC T5 processor contains 16 cores and 128 hardware threads, yielding a maximum of 128 cores and 1024 hardware threads in the 8‑socket configurationOracle.

The T5‑8 uses high‑speed on‑board interconnect between processors to achieve low‑latency NUMA performance. Each T5 silicon integrates dedicated cryptographic accelerators to offload SSL, TLS and database encryption operations. Note that the T5 generation does NOT include Software‑in‑Silicon, Silicon Secured Memory or DAX analytics accelerators which were introduced starting from M7 / S7 / T7 platforms.

Built for heavy consolidation, it supports Oracle VM Server for SPARC (Logical Domains), allowing customers to split the large physical server into many isolated virtual domains for database and application separation. Comprehensive RAS features include memory ECC & DIMM sparing, hot‑swap power supplies, redundant cooling, and fault‑isolation for processor modules.

Hardware specifications:

  • Form factor: 8‑U rack‑mount chassis

  • Processors: Scalable 4 or 8 × SPARC T5 @3.6 GHz (16‑core /128‑threads per socket)

  • Memory: DDR3 DIMMs, maximum 4 TB total system memory

  • Storage: 8 × front‑loading 2.5‑inch SFF hot‑swap SAS‑2 drive bays

  • Expansion: 16 × hot‑pluggable PCI‑E Gen3 low‑profile slots

  • Network: On‑board Gigabit Ethernet ports

  • Management: Oracle ILOM service processor for remote lights‑out administration

  • Redundancy: Redundant hot‑swap AC power supplies, redundant fan modules, memory sparing

  • Supported OS: Oracle Solaris 10, Oracle Solaris 11; Oracle VM Server for SPARC

Primary use‑cases include large OLTP Oracle database instances, heavy enterprise application consolidation, and private cloud deployments requiring a single large SMP server. The T5‑8 represents the top‑end of the T5 family, preceding the later T7‑series servers with Software‑in‑Silicon security technology.
