Oracle SPARC T4‑4 Server

The SPARC T4‑4 is a high‑end multi‑socket rack‑mount enterprise server designed and manufactured by Oracle (formerly Sun Microsystems). Housed in a compact 5‑rack‑unit chassis, the machine can be configured with either two or four SPARC T4 multi‑core processors running up to 3.0 GHz. Each SPARC T4 chip contains 8 cores with 8 hardware threads per core, delivering massive multi‑threaded throughput while bringing a significant leap in single‑thread execution performance over the older SPARC T3 platform.

The server supports up to 2 TB DDR3 system memory and provides 16 PCI‑Express Gen2 expansion slots for network and storage adapters. The internal disk backplane accepts a mixture of hard disk drives and solid‑state SSDs. Integrated on‑chip crypto engines offer hardware‑accelerated encryption and decryption without consuming general‑purpose CPU resources.

SPARC T4‑4 natively executes Oracle Solaris 10 and Solaris 11, maintaining full binary compatibility with legacy SPARC applications. It includes zero‑cost virtualization features: Oracle VM Server for SPARC and Solaris Containers enable workload consolidation to improve hardware utilization and cut data‑center operating expenses.

As a critical compute node component, the SPARC T4‑4 is the foundation of the SPARC SuperCluster engineered solution. Typical enterprise workloads include Oracle database instances, ERP & CRM business applications, and large‑scale server consolidation projects for mission‑critical environments.
