Oracle SPARC T4‑2 Server
The SPARC T4‑2 is a mid‑range 3U rack‑mount enterprise server developed by Oracle (originally Sun Microsystems). It is a dual‑socket system populated with two SPARC T4 multi‑core processors clocked at 2.85 GHz. Each processor contains 8 cores and 64 hardware threads, for a total maximum of 128 system threads, balancing strong single‑thread execution and massive multi‑thread throughput performance.
The server provides 32 DDR3 DIMM slots supporting a maximum memory capacity of 512 GB. There are ten PCI‑Express Gen‑2 expansion slots to accommodate additional network interface cards and storage adapters, together with six internal 2.5‑inch drive bays for HDD or SSD storage. The SPARC T4 processor integrates hardware crypto‑acceleration engines, performing encryption and decryption at high speed without consuming general CPU resources.
This platform natively supports Oracle Solaris 10 and Solaris 11, maintaining binary compatibility with legacy SPARC applications. It includes zero‑cost virtualization capabilities: Oracle VM Server for SPARC hypervisor and Solaris Zones (Containers) allow customers to consolidate multiple workloads onto one physical server, improving hardware utilization and lowering data‑center operating costs.
As a mid‑range member of the T4 family (between T4‑1 and T4‑4), the SPARC T4‑2 is commonly deployed for mid‑sized Oracle database instances, ERP systems, and virtualized enterprise workloads for mission‑critical environments.
