Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140 Server
he Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140 is a 1U rack‑mount enterprise server released by Sun Microsystems (later acquired by Oracle) based on the UltraSPARC T2‑Plus CMT (Chip‑Multi‑Threading) processor architectureOracle. It has been officially end‑of‑life.
This system is equipped with two UltraSPARC T2‑Plus multi‑core multithreaded CPUs. Processor options include 4‑core, 6‑core and 8‑core configurations at clock speeds of 1.2 GHz, 1.4 GHz or 1.6 GHz. Each processor supports up to 64 threads, delivering a maximum of 128 hardware threads across the two sockets, making it well‑suited for highly‑threaded workloads such as application servers and database servicesOracle.
The server provides 16 FB‑DIMM memory slots with maximum supported memory up to 128 GB. Storage consists of four front‑accessible 2.5‑inch SAS hot‑swap hard‑disk bays. For expansion, there are three PCI‑Express slots on the mainboard. Network connectivity includes four onboard Gigabit Ethernet ports plus a dedicated ILOM management port for out‑of‑band remote server administration, including power control, hardware monitoring and serial console redirectionOracle. Redundant AC power supplies are standard (DC power SKU is also available).
Only SPARC‑variant Solaris operating systems (Solaris 10, Solaris 11) can run on this platform; standard x86‑based Linux and Microsoft Windows are not supported.
For system reliability, it implements comprehensive RAS features: hot‑swappable fan modules and hard disks, component fault monitoring via ILOM service processor. The T5140 is the 1U counterpart of the 2U T5240 server, which offers higher maximum memory capacity (256 GB) and additional I/O expansion roomOracle
