Sun Fire X4170 M2 is the updated M2 generation of the classic X4170 platform, a 1U rack-mount x86 enterprise server from Sun Microsystems. It supports one or two Intel Xeon 5600 series multi-core processors, bringing higher core density and better power efficiency compared with the original X4170 model. The server has 18 DDR3 ECC RDIMM slots, supporting up to 144GB of 1333MHz registered memory. It can be configured with up to six 2.5-inch SATA drives using the onboard SATA controller; with an optional SAS RAID HBA, it supports up to eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD or SSD. It is equipped with three low-profile PCIe 2.0 expansion slots and four integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports. Redundant hot-swappable 760W power supplies and variable-speed hot-plug fan modules provide N+1 high availability. The built-in Sun ILOM service processor supports remote KVM, power control, hardware monitoring and fault diagnosis. It was widely used for Oracle database clusters, MySQL, application tiers and server consolidation.
