Sun Fire X4170 is a 1U rack-mount dual-socket x86 server released by Sun Microsystems. It supports one or two Intel Xeon 5500 series quad-core processors and is widely deployed for OLTP database, middleware and server consolidation. The system has 18 DDR3 ECC registered DIMM slots with a maximum memory capacity of 144GB. It can support up to six 2.5-inch SATA drives using the onboard SATA controller, or expand to eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD/SSD when fitted with an optional hardware RAID HBA. It features three low-profile PCIe 2.0 expansion slots, four integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports, a slim DVD-RW and an internal Compact Flash slot. Redundant hot-swap 760W power supplies and hot-swappable fan modules ensure high availability. Sun ILOM service processor provides remote KVM, monitoring, power control and fault diagnosis for lights-out management. It is a classic generation of 1U database server for Sun/Oracle data center environments.
